Parenting Classes
Wesley House Family Services offers the community a variety of free parenting workshops to enrich and strengthen families. These include:
Nurturing Parenting Program - Ages 0-5
General topics include: bonding and attachment, developmental stages, developing empathy, meeting our needs and the needs of our children, alternatives to spanking, rewards and consequences, redirection, morals, vales and rules, toilet training, sibling rivalry, and stress management.
Nurturing Parenting Program - Ages 6-11
General topics include: meeting our needs and the needs of our children, recognizing and understanding our feelings, helping children handle their feelings, expectations, alternatives to spanking, discipline rewards and consequences, praise and encouragement, family meetings, behavior and chore charts, sibling rivalry, fitness and nutrition, stress management, and anger management.
Nurturing Parenting Program for Parents and Adolescents
General topics include: ten characteristics of nurturing parent and teen relationships; helping teens through challenging times; praising teenagers and their behavior; constructive communication; adult personal power; negotiation and compromise; problem solving and decision making; why teens stop talking and eight things parents can do; helping teens manage their behavior, ways to handle anger; date rape; violent and possessive relationships; teen developmental issues.
