WHFS Neighborhood Center Services
The Neighborhood Center provides Safe and Stable Family Services to families at risk of abuse and neglect, families that have children removed from the home, or referred due to risk of having children removed from the home. Services include family support services, family preservation services, time-limited reunification services, and adoption promotion and support services.
Service Times:
Referrals accepted Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Services provided at times related to client needs
Program Goals:
- Increased number of children free from abuse and neglect and/or repeat abuse and neglect
- Reduced number of children removed from the their home and placed in out-of-home care
- Increased number of linkages to community agencies for need-specific support for families served
- Improved functionality of the families served by this contract in terms of parenting skills, financial management and overall family support structure
Services to be Provided to Clients:
- Linkages to existing community services including substance abuse and domestic violence support
- Parenting skills training
- Adoption support services
- Independent Living Skills Training Classes
- Emergency financial assistance to families to prevent removal of the child(ren) from the home; limited assistance for housing, transportation, clothing, food, etc. to prevent removal
Client Categories:
- Residents of Monroe County referred by identified referral sources including: police; Florida Department of Children and Families; schools; social service agencies; churches; and self referrals
- Children and their families needing family support services, family preservation services, reunification services and/or in-home services - whether court ordered or voluntary
WHFS Crisis Intervention Services
The Crisis Intervention program provides in-home, intensive, short-term family preservation services, time-limited family reunification services, and adoption promotion and support services
Services are provided on a voluntary basis or court ordered to families whose children are in imminent risk of removal from the home due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
If the child’s safety cannot be ensured, Crisis Intervention Services are not appropriate.
Service Times:
24 Hours per day, 7 days per week
Program Goals:
- To assure children’s safety within the home and preserve intact families in which children have been maltreated, when the family’s problems can be addressed effectively;
- To prevent child maltreatment among families at risk of foster care placement;
- To support families to whom a child has been returned after a foster care placement;
- To support adoptive families by providing support services as necessary so that they can make a lifetime commitment to their children;
- To assist families in improving parenting skills with respect to matters such as child development, family budgeting, coping with stress, health and nutrition.
Services to be Provided to Clients:
- Conflict resolution and anger management
- Parenting and communication skills
- On-call support
- Appropriate and effective discipline techniques
- Household management
- School intervention
- Linkage to other community assistance
- Emergency financial assistance to prevent removal of the child(ren) from the home (e.g. limited assistance for housing, furniture, clothing, food, etc.)
Client Categories:
- Children and families in need of support, preservation, and reunification services either court ordered or voluntary
- Post-legal adoptive families requesting services (does not include Medicaid eligibility support or adoption subsidy issues)
- Full Case Management Agency (FCMA) families where the child’s return home is imminent to assist in stabilized reunification and pos-placement
- FCMA families on the verge of removal due to long term relative disruption
- Families identified as high risk reunifications
- Direct File families where the children are left in the home with a parent or caregiver
