Strengthening Families Prevention Services

WHFS provides services that support and strengthen families to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors that ensure the well-being of children and families and reduce the risk of a child coming into foster care.

The best way to prevent abuse and neglect is to support family members and prepare parents with the skills and resources they need to nurture their children. Prevention efforts build on family strengths. Activities provided include parent education, in home services, outreach, community education and parental support.

Full Case Management

In situations where the Department of Children and Families (DCF) determines that a child is at risk of abuse, abandonment or neglect WHFS steps in to assist. The Full Case Management (FCM) Program is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the child, while helping the biological family address the issues that brought the family to the attention of DCF.

All services delivered are strength-based and culturally competent. A dedicated case manager works closely with the child’s parents to develop a personalized plan that identifies, addresses, corrects and prevents repetition of any circumstances which put the child at risk of harm. The intent is to strengthen and preserve the family with the primary goal of protecting the child.

Supervised Visitation

The purpose of supervised visitation is to ensure that parents have an opportunity to maintain contact with their children in a structured environment that is both safe and comfortable for the child. Trained staff support and monitor these family visits. The program ensures that court mandates are followed and that the risk of harm to children is minimized. Our staff and child friendly spaces offer a comfortable environment for positive interaction.
